Team Building

Why do Team Building?

We all like a pleasant work environment. Feeling accepted and valued is a great motivator and fundamental to employee morale.

Most of your attention is, necessarily, on meeting clients’ needs but your employees are your greatest asset. When they are enjoying their work, they will do better work and your productivity will increase. Turnover is likely to be less and complaints fewer.

Have you tried getting your team together and out of the office? Whatever activity you chose, did you notice any of these benefits?

  • Getting to know each other better and turning a group of individuals into a team. Builds cohesion, respect, improves morale, increases trust especially between the leadership and staff. People tend to be more creative and productive when with people they are comfortable with
  • Group activities enable teams to figure out how to work together better. Team members get to know each other’s strengths and weaknesses and interests so they can work collaboratively more efficiently
  • Teams build skills in communication, planning, problem-solving and conflict resolution. Team building can help identify what works and what doesn’t in the communications in your office, who holds informal power, what alliances are helpful or are some undermining your mission
  • Improves motivation because team members feel valued by colleagues as well as management
  • Reinvigorates established teams
  • Clarifies the vision and goals of the team and each person’s contribution
  • Helps create a culture or a change in culture (eg. overcoming risk-aversion, becoming client-centred)
  • Focus on a specific project or challenge the team is facing. It’s a type of brainstorming that often leads to unexpected solutions
  • Identifies hidden skills and latent talents that team members have
  • Last, but not least, team building is about having fun and celebrating the team.

My approach

  • My programs are planned in close collaboration with you and your leadership team.
  • After deciding the focus for the program, I invite the participants to complete a personality test.
  • Then we meet together for interactive, practical activities based on the test results and our planning discussions.
  • The activities are designed to help team members see their own and each others’ strengths and how they can complement each other.
  • Team members are encouraged to think about the implications of the activities for their workplace and team.
  • We can then build a profile of the team so you can see what your team’s strengths and gaps are.
  • From there, we work together to identify ways of filling those gaps and developing the team further. You and your team will leave with several strategies to try out
  • Follow up by phone or email in the weeks following the workshop.
