Meetings involving several different stakeholders with strong views can be a challenge to run successfully so that an outcome is achieved.
The person leading the discussion usually finds it hard to concentrate on the topic at the same time as running the meeting. The facilitator often misses out on making their contribution to the discussion.
In addition, it takes a lot of time to prepare for big meetings.
What’s the solution?
I am trained in mediation and experienced in facilitating Family Group Meetings, collaborative family meetings with Indigenous families and services, and stakeholder meetings. My practice framework is based on core values of collaboration, partnership and empowerment.
As such, I can help you achieve the goal of your meeting and take much of the stress out of complex or contentious meetings.
As an external facilitator I fill a number of roles:
- Prepare the agenda and consult with participants prior to the meeting if appropriate
- Remain neutral regarding the discussion topic
- Have no decision making power
- Keep the group on task and moving together towards the goal
- Ensure everyone is able to participate and have a fair say
- Manage the group dynamics, especially any differences of opinion or conflict
- Clarify what participants mean
- Ask challenging questions and highlight inconsistencies and assumptions
- Record key information
- Ensure decisions are made and recorded.
